Bio
John Wirenius is a lawyer and scholar whose practice and writing centers around the balance of power between the individual and the state, and in preserving freedom of speech. Most recently, John represented (pro bono) the New York City artist Barbara Nitke and the NCSF in the First Amendment case Nitke v. Gonzales, which challenged federal statutes allowing prosecutors to apply the most conservative community standards of decency in the Nation to the entire Internet.

John is the author of FIRST AMENDMENT, FIRST PRINCIPLES: VERBAL ACTS AND FREEDOM OF SPEECH (Revised Edition, 2004), and of ten (to date) articles on various subjects published in law reviews throughout the country. He is working on a new article on the tension between free speech values and sexual harassment hostile work environment doctrine, and a new book on natural law and its application to the US Constitution.

John's interests are: legal scholarship, the Dutch Kills Orchards and Cattery, caring for kittens and Cat, fencing (not well, but whatever), and literature.
