Do I really have to be greeted in the morning by the unedifying spectacle of William Kristol using Dick Cheney's loafers as a fetish object? I mean, really, is there a more cogent response that "eww" to this :

No spin. No doubletalk. A cogent defense of his action — and one that shows a well-considered sense of justice. (“I thought he merited it.”) Indeed, if justice is seeking to give each his due, one might say that Dick Cheney aspires to being a just man. And a thoughtful one, because he knows that justice is sometimes too harsh, and should be tempered by civility.

Well, yes. One might. If one were Vlad Tepes, say, or some such luminary. Or if you were a grim comic setting up a grimmer punchline. Otherwise, not so much.

Really, Kristol's repeated factual misstatements (from his debut column on), reliable wrongness on every front, and weird mixture of insensate loyalty to the GOP and his opportunistic denunciations of that party's nominee for following his advice are one thing. But this weird Cheney lust--the love that should not dare to speak its name, but instead won't shut up--is a Rockport too far. I may have to follow the example of Marcus Cato, and end every post, on whatever subject, with, "And, furthermore, it is my firm opinion that there can be no justice or prosperity or security in the United States until Kristol is fired by the Times."

Hmm...let's see:

Bears are Cute

And, furthermore, it is my firm opinion that there can be no justice or prosperity or security in the United States until Kristol is fired by the Times.

I think I like it.

Sounds like Kristol is living up to the standards of the Times to me. ;)
